GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The job of the Director of Student Services is done for the purpose/s of directing student services programs; providing information and serving as a resource to others; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; and serving as a member of the leadership team.

 

MAJOR TASKS:

  • Directs operations; maintenance of services and the implementation of new programs and/or processes (i.e. athletics, district crisis plan, student activities, district prevention program, school resource officers) for the purpose of providing services within established timeframes and in compliance with related requirements.
  • Manages a wide variety of program components (i.e. athletics, accreditation, safety) for the purpose of delivery services, which conform to regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written communication (i.e. long and short-range plans, reports, analyses, correspondence, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information and/or recommendations regarding curriculum.
  • Provides leadership, communication, training and organization of the district’s crisis plan (Emergency Operating Procedures), threat management team process (CSTAG) and Suicide or Self Harm process.
  • Serve as a liaison to school administration and parents for the purpose of evaluating situations and/or programs, providing direction and achieving overall program and district objectives.
  • Maintains quality interactions with site admin and school staff through frequent visits to schools.
  • Reviews and/or revises the student handbook annually with site administration.
  • Reviews and/or revises the coach’s handbook annually with site athletic directors.
  • Serves as a resource to building administrators relative to programs, policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Supervises K – 12 District Nurse Health Advisor, and serves as a liaison to School Resource Officers and law enforcement.
  • Leads, organizes and provides training in the areas of  prevention, intervention, health and wellness programs.
  • Organizes immunization clinics (influenza) with local business partners for the benefit of the school community.
  • Title IX Coordinator, Investigator and/or Decision maker in conjunction with the Executive Director of Human Resources
  • Leads, organizes and provides training in student discipline and investigation, oversees long-term suspension and expulsion process
  • Leads calendar committee in the creation and review of district calendar.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Leadership and Superintendent for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Arizona Teaching Certificate and appropriate Arizona Administrative Certificate.
  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience with CTE programs, secondary athletics, safety/crisis and assessment.
  • Recent secondary administration experience and at least 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of all phases of curriculum and instructional practices 7-12.
  • Background and experience in effective supervision and evaluation practices.
  • Experience in personnel operations.
  • Independent problem solving required to analyze issues and create action plans.
