CCUSD is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to provide support and assistance to English Language Learners (ELL) at the middle school level. The Paraprofessional will work closely with ELL students, teachers, and other staff members to facilitate language acquisition and academic success. 

 

MAJOR TASKS:

 

  • Support ELL Students: Assist ELL studentsin developing English language proficiency through various instructional strategies, including small group work, one-on-one support, and classroom activities using ELP Standards.
  • Language Support: Provide individualized language support in English, including vocabulary development, speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation, and comprehension skills.
  • Collaborate with Teachers: Collaborate with content teachers to align instructional activities to ELP Standards and adaptmaterials to meet the diverse needs of ELL students.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Assist in the assessments of ELL students' language proficiency and academic progress, including AZELLA testing, and maintain accurate records of student performance.
  • Individualized Support: Provide additional support to ELL students with special learning needs, working closely with special education staff when necessary.
  • Parent and Community Engagement: Foster positive communication with parents and guardians of ELL students to keep them informed about their child's progress and involve them in their child's education.
  • Professional Development: Participate in relevant professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay updated on best practices in ELL education.
  • Classroom Management: Help maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning for all studens. Promote cultural sensitivity and awareness within the classroom, helping ELL students feel comfortable and included in the school community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency, with a strong command of English
  • Experience working with elementary or high school school-aged children, particularly ELL students, is highly desirable 
  • Knowledge of language acquisition theories, ESL teaching strategies, ELP Standards, and cultural sensitivity
  • Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education; Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; or met the State Paraprofessional Academic Assessment
  • Knowledge of special education disabilities and classifications, process and laws preferable
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communciation skills to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and parents
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help ELL students succeed in their educational journey
  • Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the students and the school
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Computer skills
