GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:   FLSA: HOURLY

Supports District schools and principals in their effort to foster an optimal educational environment for students. Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks. Performs special cleaning as required to keep assigned area clean, safe, functionally in order and sanitary as directed by the appropriate Supervisor.

 

MAJOR TASKS:

  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs and waxes floors, including surfaces of many types.
  • Vacuums rugs and carpets, cleans walls and blackboards; dusts, waxes, washes and polishes furniture and woodwork.
  • Cleans restrooms, washes windows.
  • Acts as groundskeeper for Child’s Play Preschool playground.
  • Arranges furniture and equipment for special activities; assists school personnel with heavy objects, inspects buildings and grounds for broken equipment or vandalism and reports the need for repairs.
  • Empties trash and garbage cans; may sweep concrete surfaces immediately adjacent to the school buildings.
  • Performs minor maintenance tasks to keep assigned area safe and operating.
  • Participates in thorough cleaning of school plant and facilities during summer vacation and other periods; including painting and simple maintenance duties.
  • Locks and secures windows and doors at end of day.
  • Performs and assumes additional duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge of safety and health requirements related to custodial maintenance and groundskeeping areas.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a bus driver’s license.
  • Be able to generate and maintain maintenance and repair records.
  • Have knowledge of first aid practices.
  • Be able to set a good example for students in behavior, attitude and appearance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have regular and reliable attendance, is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. Physical Demands:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

EVALUATION:            

At least once annually by the Director of ECS in accordance with the Policy of the Governing Board.
