GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: FLSA: Non-Exempt

Supports District schools and principals in their effort to foster an optimal educational environment for students.

To practice prevention, care and rehabilitation of injuries incurred through athletic participation, with the use of physical modalities; to teach first aid and CPR procedures to the coaching staff; to operate a system of management and maintenance of athletic and physical education supplies, equipment and facilities at each school.

 

MAJOR TASKS:

  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance to agreed upon schedule.
  • Administers programs to provide emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation of injured high school athletes in compliance with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association guidelines.
  • Organizes, maintains, issues, collects, receives as assigned and monitors an accurate inventory of all athletic and physical education equipment.
  • Follows the developed district guidelines and emergency care procedures.
  • Communicates with parents, physicians and coaches regarding the status of injured athletes.
  • Maintains accurate records on athletic injuries, referral to physicians and treatments administered.
  • Serves as a resource person to coaches in the development of related programs, condition and off-season programs for various sports.
  1. Formulates plans for Saturday morning session to screen injuries.
  2. Prior to season, conducts an annual in-service program and student trainers regarding prevention, care, established emergency care procedures and general athletic training principles.
  • Develops a student trainer and equipment program.
  • Teaches emergency athletic injury program and CPR procedures to entire coaching staff.
  • Attends practice sessions, home athletic activities, away varsity football games and tournaments.
  • Submits recommendations regarding emergency kits, training room supplies, special equipment and proper fitting procedures for helmets and shoulder pads to local athletic director.
  • Meets with school and community groups to explain the district athletic training program.
  • Provides quality health care for student athletes through cooperative efforts with team physicians, coaches and student trainers.
  • Provides annual summary report to the local Assistant Principal: Operations & Resources and the Principal relative to the athletic training program responsibilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the designated Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university.
  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid teaching certificate or substitute teaching certificate.
  • Valid Athletic Trainer Certificate as issued by the Board of Certification.
  • Valid athletic training license issued by the Arizona Board of Athletic Training.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with coaches, parents, students and professional staff.
  • Leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of school rules and practices.
  • Ability to obtain malpractice insurance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may deem appropriate and acceptable.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
