GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: FLSA:  Hourly  

Supports District schools and principals in their effort to foster an optimal educational environment for students. To enhance/facilitate the delivery of services to students with visual impairments and using Braille.

 

MAJOR TASKS:

  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff and community.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups in both general and special education classes.
  • Prepare enlarged materials/worksheets for students
  • Translate, read and write in contracted braille.
  • Prepare braille materials using computer software or Braillewriter.
  • Produce non-computer tactile materials.
  • Implement established classroom management procedures
  • Communicate with general education staff regarding student needs/progress
  • Assist teacher in maintaining necessary records.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward job responsibilities and individual student disabilities.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma
  • Clerical- typing and word processing skills
  • Computer Experience
  • Willingness to learn Braille and related technology.

SUPERVISION: 

Report to Teacher of the Visually Impaired

Evaluated by Director of Special Education

 

EVALUATION:

At least once annually by the administrator in accordance with the policy of the Governing Board.
