GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:   FLSA: EXEMPT

Supports District schools and principals in their effort to foster an optimal educational environment for students. To teach and supervise a preschool and/or extended kindergarten class; to set the tone of the class; and to establish developmentally appropriate curriculum.

 

MAJOR TASKS:

  • Designs and maintains the physical environment to include the following:

        .   a variety of interest centers;
        .   a clean, safe environment;
        .   daily sign-in sheets, and parent bulletin board; and
        .   developmentally appropriate materials and activities.

  • Creates and maintains an interpersonal environment that:
      .   provides warmth and affection to all children equally;
      .   fosters self-esteem, respect for others, and independence; and
      .   provides for individual differences and abilities.
  • Plans and carries out daily activities that:
      .   are appropriate to the philosophy of the school;
      .   are developmentally appropriate to the individual children of the class;
      .   are posted in weekly lesson plan for parents to view; and
      .  provide for parental involvement in the classroom.
  • Keeps written records of the following:
      .  class goals of the year;
      .   parent/teacher conferences conducted during the year (at least one a year); &
      .   participation in self and school evaluations.
  • Maintains professional competence through continuing education, staff development, staff meeting attendance, and participation in special school events.
  • Writes one newsletter article each month.
  • Reports to the Preschool Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training or experience in early childhood education -- BA, AA or CDA preferred.    
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
  • Exhibit flexibility, creativity and a willingness to learn.
